The end of an era (last visit to family cottage)
Weekend: Bittersweet. Tears for beginnings and endings (but nobody died). Emotional ties to physical locations really suck, especially when you know you will never ever be able to return. To that place or that moment.

I'm in a bit of a photo funk (I don't have anyone/thing to take photos of, I'm not getting any better, therefore why do I bother), so I didn't record the weekend as well as I should have. Or the things I should have. But I can't beat myself up because now it's too late. No going back to a place that will be sold and bulldozed very soon.

Even with crappy weather it was beautiful.. I so love the beach there, the lake is just perfect for swimming and walking along. And the sand was always so perfect for playing.

(Not trying to copy you Lulu, I promise. Harry drew the heart spontaneously and your version is much better anyway...)

On the wall in our old room.. My sister at around 4: "i am letl but i am strong." I love this.

The little hedgehog or.. something.. that hangs from our curtain rod. Just because.

I've been absent but will be back for real tomorrow or Tuesday. Feel free to ignore this post until I comment on your blog, I know I probably haven't visited in a while and I'm sorry.

Yay for an update and new banner!

I totally understand about getting into a photo funk. Really, I understand about all kinds of artistic funks, lack of inspiration etc. Still, I love the shots... especially the wall with your sis's writing.

Love your new banner..and I so understand about the funk. I go through them all of the time..I"m sure you'll snap out of it before long. I'm loving the mood on these that you've posted, and that little sign of your sister's. So cute!

We've all been in the photo funk. I think all artists can relate. It is good to take a step back every now and again to get regrouped. I just went through mine a couple months ago. One of the worst things for me, is comparing myself to YOU and other awesome photographers - saying "I want to shoot photos like THAT". We are all individuals with our own style - and yours is wonderful and obviously so inspiring for others. OK, now I am stepping off the soapbox, sorry for going on : )

Beautiful images, Ellen!
I certainly understand photo funk too...I'm right there with you now. Hopefully, neither of us will spend too much time there! :)

You know, when I first looked at the photo of the balanced stones, I thought it reminded me of a person, but then I realised I was more like two people hugging - the two top stones are the heads, the middle one are the embracing arms, and the big bottom stone is the two bodies.

Was that what you saw?

Oh Ellen I'm so sorry for your loss :(
I'm a huge 'emotionally-attached-to-places' person so I understand :(
Your photos of lovely....funk or not you really captured a place and a moment in time.

Girl I see no funk! Your work is an art within itself! Always beautiful and unique! I love your style and I love to come back and see what you have new for us to see!

So sorry you're in a funk! *sigh* I know that place all too well. I think these photos are great though. I hope you feel better soon. :)

it sucks to be an artist, doesn't it? LOLOL seriously, do bankers or mathemeticians have these funks? really, a mathematical equation is a mathematical equation whether you are depressed or down or whatever. sometimes i wish i had fallen in love with something a little more consistent, you know. something that doesn't change.

i think you are a wonderful person, ellen, and i always love your heartfelt images. i'm sorry you're feeling this way. it just sucks.

love ya,
christie

so typically rude of me to not comment on your photos, sheesh.

i LOVE the curving line of the water in #1, really pleasing and smooth. i love the shape in #2. love the story behind it too.

Hey funk girl! I hope you're feeling better. Your pics always rock and these (as usual) are gorgeous! I LOVE the heart pic and then the wash away pic to follow -- very talentad.

This rain is ugh! I so agree. So many of my weddings have been rained out and I'm restricted as to what I can do with indoor pics
:(

Love your new header! Simple yet powerful...another very creative idea.

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time saying goodbye. I hope whatver happens you will have plenty of happiness
