Busy + Ugly + Beautiful
Hi guys! How are you? I hope you had a good week. Mine was ok.. Getting real fall weather here now, busy with school, my mom is here visiting. I haven't had time to do much of anything, but it's been nice. I've been so frustrated though! Every day after school the light has been beautiful. I hurry home, grab my camera, and it's gone! But I really don't want to lug my camera around at school, so.. Maybe one of these days I'll make it in time. Although I guess the tilt of the earth is working against me right now... Anyway, yesterday after I missed the nice light, I went out and tried to work on some of my goals. Then I broke all my own rules because, you know, I'm a rebel. Lol.

Trying for lots of DOF (with motion blur - the first is handheld at 1/6) - notice the mostly in-focus foreground and background? These were with my 30mm, I need to break out the super wide soon.

Then I got frustrated, so I decided to just photograph boring stuff with a shallow DOF, my old standby lol. Here are some shots from the alley!

(not so shallow, but they reminded me of fallopian tubes haha)

Now, check out these beautiful things that came in the mail today! Play food cakes and cookies from Etsy! I was sooo excited, they came so quickly and they're gorgeous. They're a birthday present for one of the kids I babysit back home. These are from Mon Petit Soleil on Etsy, you should definitely check out her shop - very reasonable prices, awesome product, and amazing customer service!

p.s. Lottie and Lulu, I'm going to call Scotland Yard (do they still exist? lol) to search for you if you don't post soon. Seriously, you're missed.

You never know how much a picture of an old chain can impact someone. :D I like it. And ok..that pretend food...if it was real, I'd probably be licking my computer screen. :D (maybe a little too much info there...)

Ellen, so good to see your work! Love it as always. It looks like you are doing well. I love your etsy finds. Adorable! To bad I only have boys. I'll have to find someone that would like those. They're to cute to pass up!

These are great as usual. I love your shallow DOF. I really like your motion blur ones too. I always want to try that. I don't think I could handhold as well as you did though. Keep posting. Love seeing your work!

Motion blur is fun - I tried it in London and got some good results.

And aww, play food!

Great images! I really like the one of the chain going down (4th picture I think) and the lock...Those are my favorites, but they are all very good!

The "fallopian tube" picture made me giggle. Great shots, as always. Also, could those play pastries be any sweeter? If this baby turns out to be a girl, it's going to open a whole new world of fun and shopping...

(Hi Ellen's Mom.)

hi ellen. i read this post a few days back at least and didn't comment yet. i'm so glad to see you are experimenting with dof like you talked about.

it really works for #2, i just love getting all that detail, it really helps tell a story for me. #1 doesn't work quite as well for me, i don't know why. i like the image but the dof is too much and i feel distracted instead.

the gifts are just beautiful and your product photography, as always, is awesome!
